ITINERARY:
DAY 1/ Buenos Aires
Arrival and meeting at the airport. Transfer to Hotel Moreno Buenos Aires or similar. Afternoon at leisure. Late in the evening you will enjoy dinner and tango show at the traditional “Esquina Homero Manzi”.
DAY 2 / Buenos Aires/ Iguazú
Transfer to the airport and morning flight from Buenos Aires to Puerto Iguazu. This tropical region of virgin jungles and extraordinary vegetation and wildlife lies in the extreme northeastern area of Argentina bordering with Brazil and Paraguay.
Welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon you will enjoy a private excursion to explore the Argentinean side of Iguazú Falls. Lodging at Hotel La Cantera Iguazu (Room Earth) located in Puerto Iguazu just a few minutes from the park entrance (Tour Price Option 1). OR if you prefer lodging at Hotel Melia Iguazu located inside the park with spectacular views of the falls (Tour price option 2). (B)
DAY 3 / Iguazu Falls
Today you will take the “Gran Aventura” boat excursion. The tour starts with an 8 km (5 mile) truck drive along the Yacaratia Trail that will give you the opportunity to spot the wildlife and flora of the jungle. You will later enjoy a boat ride on the Iguazu River to get close to the San Martín Island, The Three Musketeers and the mighty Devil’s Throat.
Afternoon at leisure: You may stay in the park and walk along the upper and lower trails to see the falls again on your own OR you may take an optional excursion to the Brazilian side of the park Note: Visa required for US citizens to visit Brazil. Lodging. (B)
DAY 4 / Iguazu Falls
Day at leisure to enjoy optional excursions (addtional cost) Lodging. (B) Some Ideas: You may visit Puerto Iguazu, take an excursion to Sendero Yacaratia, or Argentine Macuco, or take a full day excursion to see the San Ignacio Jesuit ruins (about 9 hours/ Wed & Sat).
DAY 5 / Iguazu Falls/ Buenos Aires
Private transfer to the airport to take your morning flight to Buenos Aires. Arrival and transfer to our hotel. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a tour of this wonderful cosmopolitan city, capital of Argentina. (B,D)
DAY 6 / Buenos Aires / Lima
We will fly in the morning to Lima, Peru. Our local guide will meet us at the airport and transfer to your hotel. In the afternoon you will visit the beautiful colonial area of Lima including Plaza Mayor, Plaza San Martín, the Cathedral, the catacombs of San Francisco. Later we’ll visit the residential areas of Miraflores, Barranco and beaches (private excursion). You’ll return in the evening to your hotel. Lodging at Hotel San Agustin Exclusive 4* or similar. (B)
DAY 7 / Lima/ Cusco
Today you’ll fly to Cusco in the morning. Arrival and transfer to Hotel Costa del Sol Ramada 4* or Hotel San Agustin Plaza 4* similar. Rest of the day at leisure to rest and acclimatize. (B)
DAY 8 / Cusco
Today you will visit the four most important ruins near Cusco: Kenko, an ancient religious center; Tambomachay, the Inca baths; and the grandiose Pucapucara and Sacsayhuaman fortresses (private excursion with bilingual guide). Lodging. (B)
DAY 9 / Cusco/ Sacred Valley, Pisa & Ollantaytambo
After breakfast, you’ll leave on a full day group excursion to the Incas Sacred Valley visiting the picturesque town of Pisac and its Indian market. Lunch in Urubamba. Later you’ll continue to visit Ollantaytambo ruins and Chincheros market. You’ll return to Cusco in the evening. Lodging. (B,L)
DAY 10 / Cusco / Machu Picchu
Breakfast. Transfer to the station. You’ll depart on the train until Km104, to start the Inca Trail. You’ll hike for about 3 hours (8 km) and arrive at Winaywayna ruins, the most spectacular of the Inca Trail. Picnic lunch. Later in the afternoon you’ll continue hiking until arriving at the “Inti Punku” (La Puerta del Sol) where you’ll enjoy an incredible view of the Machupicchu. You’ll take the bus to the nearby Aguas Calientes/Machu Picchu Pueblo. Lodging at Hotel Tierra Viva or Hotel Hatun Inti or similar. (B,L)
NOTE: For those who prefer NOT to hike, they will take the train to Machu Picchu and a guide will be waiting at the arrival point to visit the ruins.
DAY 11 / Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu
Early in the morning you will take the bus to the fabulous Inca citadel of Machu Picchu where you will visit several sectors: The guards tower, the three window temple, the round altar, the intihuatana, the royal tomb, the jail, the cemetery, the terraces, etc. All these areas surrounded by high mountains covered with tropical forest. Lodging in Aguas Calientes/ Machu Picchu Pueblo. (B)
DAY 12 / MACHU PICCHU /CUSCO
Breakfast. Morning at leisure to enjoy the Hot Springs in Aguas Calientes (optional) or you may climb up to Huayna Picchu, or “Young Mountain” (2,667 meters) which is the steep mountain that stands behind the citadel in the classic photographs of Machu Micchu. The ascent takes an hour along a narrow steep path and at the top there stands a set of terraces apparently built for ceremonial purposes, and the remains of a partially built temple (optional). Late in the afternoon return by train to Cusco. Lodging at Hotel Costa del Sol Ramada 4* or similar. (B)
DAY 13 / CUSCO/ LIMA / USA
Transfer to the airport to take our flight to Lima. Later flight back to USA . (B)
